If you’re thinking about a plan that lets you experience the great atmosphere of Barcelona’s nightlife, a very appealing option is to attend one of the concert venues in Barcelona or bars offering live music. The city boasts a large number of places hosting musical performances spread across almost all its neighbourhoods.

It’s precisely thanks to this considerable number of concert halls and live music venues that all of us who enjoy live music benefit from a richer and more diverse musical offering.

Thus, performances are scheduled by solo artists or bands — both young newcomers trying to make their way in the music scene, and not-so-young performers already well-seasoned on these kinds of stages.

The best live music venues and concert halls in the city

Music venues in Barcelona to enjoy the night with friends or as a couple

The feeling you get when attending a concert in one of these halls, bars, or venues is very different from what you experience during a music festival or when watching a singer or band perform on a large stage. The intimate atmosphere and the closeness you achieve with the artist or artists are simply unmatched in any other kind of setting.

Depending on the concert or venue you attend, and the type of company — especially whether you go with a group of friends or as a couple — the night will take on a different character. As a result, what is likely to turn into a great night may be entertaining, fun, romantic, or, why not, even a little bit of everything ;).

Moreover, in smaller halls and venues, where small-format concerts are usually scheduled, it is even possible to interact with the solo artist or the members of the band — not only during the concert but, in some cases, even before or after the performance.

When do these venues schedule live music performances?

In many cases, these venues and music halls either open only on certain days of the week — mainly Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays — or schedule live performances exclusively on those days.

Fortunately, that’s not always the case. Although the offer is smaller, there are several music venues and bars that feature live music on other days of the week as well.

In short, if you’d like to attend a live music performance in one of these venues and enjoy a great night out, you can do so both during the week and, of course, at the weekend.

Map of venues and places offering live music in Barcelona

Although most of these venues offer live music every night they are open, this is not always the case. We therefore encourage you to check the website or Instagram profile of the music venue you’re interested in. This way, you can be sure whether there’s a live performance scheduled on the night you plan to go.

More information to enjoy live music in Barcelona

We would also like to highlight that, although this section is constantly updated, some information may occasionally be out of date. Therefore, once again, we encourage you to check the official website of the venue or music hall. In addition, you may find the website of the Associació de Sales de Concerts de Catalunya (in Spanish, Asociación de Salas de Concierto de Cataluña) particularly interesting.

Not just music (Other types of performances and shows)

The venues and halls that regularly host concerts are the perfect setting for holding all kinds of events, thus providing space for different types of artists. As a result, it’s quite common for some themed nights or even comedy and magic festivals to be organised.

At other times, the venues schedule musical performances that are preceded by one of these shows of magic or comedy, serving as a springboard for many artists trying to make a name for themselves in the ever-challenging world of entertainment.

Just as in any major concert, it’s also very common at performances held in concert venues for the artists and bands to take the opportunity, before or after their show, to sell some merchandise as well as their records.

Given the limited resources of many of these artists, their records are often self-released or produced by small independent labels — which by no means implies they lack quality. In fact, in many cases, they are beautifully crafted editions that are well worth buying.
