Updated Dec 31 2023

Barcelona’s International Comic Fair, officially known as Còmic Barcelona, is one of the events that attracts the most people each year. The vast majority of its loyal visitors come from the city or province of Barcelona.

Even so, there are many comic and graphic novel fans who every year travel from other parts of Catalonia, as well as from other parts of Spain, to attend what is surely one of the most important events organised in the city.

Origin and evolution of Barcelona International Comic Fair

Barcelona has always been a very literary and creative city, so it is not surprising that its relationship with the world, or rather, Comic Universe, comes from afar. This has contributed greatly to the great work of promoting and spreading the culture of the comic and graphic novel that makes Barcelona International Comic Fair.

The Fair first took place in 1981, when it received a huge number of 12,000 visitors. The number of attendees at the Còmic Barcelona, which has been held at different venues throughout the city’s history (França Train Station, Les Drassanes, El Born, Fira Barcelona Montjuïc…) has not stopped increasing since its first year, reaching almost 120,000 the previous year.

Ficomic, created by the association of comic book publishers in Spain, is the entity that, from 1989 to date, organises the Barcelona Comic Fair. In addition, since 1995, the association has also been in charge of another great festival related to the sector, the Manga Fair in Barcelona.

Where can I buy tickets for the Comic Fair?

Tickets to attend the Barcelona Comic Fair can be purchased online in advance or at the ticket offices on the day of the visit. Due to the long queues that usually form at the ticket offices, and that join those that sometimes have to access the venue later, from irBarcelona we recommend buying tickets online on the official website.

To do so, you have to choose between a general ticket or one of the discounted tickets, and then select the day of the visit and proceed to payment. After purchasing, tickets are sent directly to the email address provided. These must be shown, either on paper or on the mobile phone or tablet screen, to the staff located at the entrances of the venue (not at the ticket office).

The great atmosphere of the Comic Fair

Without a doubt, one of the attractions of Barcelona Comic Fair is the great atmosphere enjoyed during the days of the fair. The most diehard and enthusiastic fans, who we could even affectionately call “freaks”, are the ones in charge of filling the Comic Fair with colourful costumes and various outfits.

For the rest, the fair is full of groups of young and not so young people, couples, parents with their children and grandparents with their grandchildren, people who go alone… and all wanting to spend a good time at any of the stands to, of course, buy a lot of comics and merchandise of their favourite characters.

And as a piece of advice…although you may not be fans of the comic genre, if you have a friend who is and they ask you to go with them…don’t hesitate to accept, we are sure that you will love it and that you will end up repeating in future years.

Activities, exhibitions and invited artists

As happens every year, different exhibitions and themed exhibitions are organised, as well as talks and comic book and graphic novel signings by many representatives from all areas of the genre.

So, the best national and international artists (both writers and cartoonists), producers, scriptwriters and publishers of the sector meet at the Comic Fair in Barcelona to the delight of all their fans.
