Horta is one of those neighbourhoods where the atmosphere of a bygone era can still be felt. Not so much the neighbourhood life of times gone by, but rather the character of the independent village that was once known as the village of Sant Joan d’Horta, until it became part of Barcelona in 1904. Fortunately, this atmosphere of a former independent village can still be felt during its Festa Major celebrations.

The Festa Major d’Horta is organised by the Festa Committee, which brings together the Coordinadora de Entitats d’Horta, other local organisations and community groups, as well as many residents who volunteer their time to help organise and run all the scheduled activities.
Highlights of the Festa Major d’Horta
Over the 10 days of the Festa Major d’Horta, a wide range of activities takes place. With such a varied programme, individuals and families alike can find plenty of activities and events to suit their interests.
The festival programme aims to strike a balance between different types of activities. Many are linked to local culture and popular traditions, while the programme also includes walks, guided tours, vermouth gatherings, fairs, dancing and much more.
Horta Craft Fair
One of the most eagerly awaited and popular events each year among visitors to the Festa Major d’Horta is the Popular Craft Fair. During the fair, a number of skilled craftspeople, working with different materials and creating objects and works in a variety of styles and for different purposes, set up their stalls to showcase and sell their work.
