If you have time, we recommend taking part in an activity relating to the region’s gastronomy, which will give you the chance to get to know Barcelona and its people, as well as the food in Catalunya and the rest of Spain. The amount of activities on offer that are related to our traditional food and drink are constantly growing, so it’s worth spending some time researching those that might interest you most.
We think that whether you’re travelling as a couple of with a group of friends, taking part in one of the gastronomic activities on offer is a great way to spend some of your time in Barcelona. As they are usually organised for groups, if you decide to go with your partner you’ll be able to enjoy a few hours with other tourists and participants, and it could be a good opportunity to share your experiences amongst yourselves. If you sign up with a group of friends, it’ll be the perfect excuse to enjoy a different experience with them.
Types of courses, workshops and gastronomic trips
We could split all these gastronomic activities into two basic groups – those that are based on walking round some of the city’s markets, shops and bars, in which you’ll be able to see for yourself the most well-known traditional products and dishes as well as sampling them, and those that give you the chance to cook some of the most typical local dishes. For example, you might be able to make a fantastic paella or some tapas from scratch, helped along by a professional chef of course, and to be able to eat your creation afterwards, accompanied by some good Catalan wine.
