As in the rest of Catalonia and Spain, Barcelona’s bar and café culture is deeply rooted. That’s why you will find a huge amount of bars in the city, and it isn’t uncommon to find two bars next to each other, or even a dozen or so in the same block. Walking through Barcelona, you’ll see everything from the most typical local bar that everyone goes to, to the most innovative bar, where design and decoration is all part of the experience. Either way, they all have their individual charm and guarantee that you’ll be treated to a well-deserved rest after a long day discovering the city.
Amongst the bars that would be classified as ‘locals’ by Barcelona’s inhabitants, we recommend to visit the ‘bodegas’ and ‘granges’. In this latter case you’re bound to be able to get an excellent coffee or hot chocolate, accompanied by a croissant, ‘churros’ or ‘ensaimadas’. Two good examples of ‘locals bars’ are Bar Mandri and Bar Tomás, which are always full of locals who are there to enjoy some of the best ‘Patatas Bravas’ that Barcelona has to offer. In terms of the most fashionable bars in Barcelona, three which stand out due to their elegant design are DosTrece, Alsur Café and Ice Bar.
