Originally designed to house the offices of the multinational Agbar in Barcelona, what is now known as Torre Glòries (in Spanish, Torre Glorias) was called — and is still often referred to as — Torre Agbar.
Since its inauguration in 2005, and despite not being located in one of the city’s most touristy areas, it has become one of the most distinctive and recognisable buildings in Barcelona’s skyline.

Thanks to its excellent location, the viewpoint at the top of Torre Glòries offers a unique view of the city of Barcelona and some of its most famous landmarks.
What to highlight about Torre Glòries?
Located in the 22@ technology district, the skyscraper has 34 floors and, at 134 metres, is one of the tallest buildings in Barcelona. Designed by the renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, it is infused with Catalan culture.
According to the architect himself, the idea for constructing Torre Glòries was inspired by the shapes of Montserrat Mountain as well as the columns of the Basilica of the Sagrada Família.
Additionally, it serves as a kind of tribute by offering a panoramic view that allows you to see the magnificent work of Antoni Gaudí, located approximately 1 km away.
Resemblances to Other Buildings
Despite its apparent originality, or at least as it seemed when it was designed, Torre Glòries bears a notable resemblance to some buildings in other cities. Among them, the “30 St Mary Axe in London” stands out in particular, and could be described as its twin.
The Lighting of Torre Glòries’ Facade
If there is one element of Torre Glòries that stands out, it is its striking and iconic red and blue lighting. This is only switched on at night, although occasionally it is also lit during the day, even changing its colour to commemorate special dates or celebrate particular occasions.
